Will the VA Pay for Urgent Care? Answers From an Approved Provider in Tampa, FL

A doctor is talking with his patient while they are seated together at a desk in a sunny office. The physician is recording the patient's medical history on a clipboard.

Are you a veteran of the United States? If so, you now have more health care options than ever before. On June 6, 2019, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) MISSION Act was implemented to provide veterans with additional health care choices and expanded access to the medical services they’ve earned through their dedicated service to our nation. As a result, eligible veterans can receive urgent care services from select civilian providers without the need to obtain a referral or prior authorization. This urgent care benefit is offered to veterans in addition to the urgent care and same-day services available through VA medical facilities.

To be eligible for the VA urgent care benefit, you must meet two requirements: First, you must be enrolled in the VA health care system, and second, you must have received care through the VA, from either a VA or a community provider, within the last 24 months.
