Recent studies show a troubling trend in sexually transmitted infections (STIs), which continue to rise at an alarming rate around the world. Although the epidemic cannot be attributed to a single cause, many experts believe key contributing factors include prevalent stigmas about STI testing, disclosing the results to sexual partners, and seeking treatment. To help overcome these negative attitudes, new strategies and tools are needed, such as convenient, affordable, and rapid STI testing that produces reliable results.

South Tampa Immediate Care is pleased to offer our patients access to rapid STI testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea using the revolutionary binx health io Diagnostic System® (binx io). Lauded as a breakthrough in the effort to prevent and control the spread of STIs, the binx io is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for diagnosing STIs in urgent care centers and other point-of-care settings. This innovative molecular platform enables single-visit diagnoses and treatment for chlamydia and gonorrhea—and it’s available to you at our walk-in clinic in Tampa, Florida.

How Does the binx io Work?

Using a female vaginal swab or a male urine specimen, the binx io can detect the presence of the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which cause chlamydia and gonorrhea, respectively. Using a combination of ultra-rapid, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and binx health’s proprietary and highly sensitive electrochemical detection technology, the binx io processes the specimen on site while the patient is present and produces the results within approximately 30 minutes. The accuracy of binx io testing is comparable to that of testing performed in a CLIA-certified laboratory that meets the requirements for high or moderate complexity testing.

A major milestone in same-day STI testing, the binx io can improve health outcomes by helping to:

  • Ensure that prompt and appropriate STI treatment is provided
  • Increase STI treatment compliance
  • Limit the transmission of STIs
  • Minimize the risk of untreated chlamydia and gonorrhea
