Do You Need an EKG?

Heart disease is on the rise in the United States. In many cases, the risk can be managed with healthy lifestyle practices and routine medical care. Additionally, when detected early, many cardiovascular issues can be effectively treated.

To help gauge your heart health and function, your physician may suggest that you get an electrocardiogram (EKG). This simple test will provide a quick recording of your heart’s electrical signals. The result can help your physician identify certain cardiac issues, which is especially important if you are scheduled for surgery or planning to start taking a new medication.

Receive Your EKG at South Tampa Immediate Care

If your physician has advised you to get an EKG for medication or surgical clearance, you can receive your test at South Tampa Immediate Care in Tampa, Florida. Our experienced team performs screening EKGs with a prescription from a primary care provider (we do not perform diagnostic EKGs to evaluate symptoms such as chest pain). Like all our non-emergency urgent care services, we perform EKGs on a walk-in basis.

An EKG takes only a few minutes to complete. After we place several small adhesive patches (electrodes) on your skin, we will connect the electrodes to an EKG machine via lead wires. While you sit comfortably, the electrodes will capture information about the electrical activity of your heart and transfer it to the EKG machine. The machine will produce a printout of the information in graphical form along with a preliminary interpretation of the findings.

At South Tampa Immediate Care, the results of your EKG will also be interpreted by a board-certified cardiologist, and you will receive a full report via email within 72 hours. We offer this service on a cash-only basis for $60 (EKGs are not billable through insurance). In addition to convenient EKG testing, South Tampa Immediate Care offers a full range of non-emergency healthcare services. Our walk-in clinic is conveniently located at 602 S. Howard Ave. in Tampa, FL. Stop by today, or book your visit online.
